Bong Sanchez

Bong Sanchez

Born 1982 in Baguio City, Philippines, Bong Ti Baguio (Bong Sanchez) lives and works in Sagada, Mountain Province, the Philippines. He began a university course in architecture before quitting and moving on to artmaking. His mixed media works reveal his architectural training with his use of building materials such as debris and technical drawings. His work attempts to capture wholeness, like a diorama: a horizon point where heavily detailed renderings of mountain ranges are foregrounded by rice terraces and villages that extend towards the actual frame of the work.

He still works as a builder and continues to design buildings, taking inspiration from Filipino architects like Bobby MaƱosa whose work is rooted in studying the sustainability capacities of indigenous architecture. Since moving to Sagada from Baguio City, he has allowed himself to better understand the dynamics of collaborative practice and the social impacts to community when designing work.
