Francis Alingcayon

Francis Alingcayon began his journey as an artist by starting as a personal assistant and apprentice for Art Lozano, a well-known artist and silent environmental activist in 2007. Performing the tasks of an apprentice from cleaning the studio, stretching and priming the canvas, up to carrying heavy paintings to be delivered at the various galleries in Manila. Art Lozano’s influence helped him to develop a work ethic as an artist and his own distinct style. He depicted patterns and forms that he observed from his environment and interpreted stories of people, especially those undergoing mental torment into his artworks.

For Francis, his artwork does not only speak about people with cognitive impairment but also addresses it to these individuals to let them be more intimate with the inner self, thereby connecting them to their own being. His aim was to create a different dimension mirroring the subconscious of society through art. He believes that transmitting ideas that might draw people into a different kind of world helps them realize who they are in their own world.
