Leonard Aguinaldo

Leonard Aguinaldo

Born on November 6, 1967, Aguinaldo, a native of Baguio City, Aguinaldo was awarded the Grand Prize in the ASEAN Art Awards sponsored by Philip Morris Philippines in 2004 and the 13 Artists Award of the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2003. He first studied architectural drafting at Baguio College Foundation and then undertook workshops at the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines Diliman. Aguinaldo’s style is highly illustrational and graphic, derived from his experience as a printmaker.

“Aguinaldo’s work is done in a medium called ‘ukir’–handpainted on [a] carved rubber sheet. One of the artist’s thematic characteristics that deals with the theme of nature and ethnicity is the conjunction of indigenous/traditional worldviews with contemporary, particularly computer technology.”
